Learning the A Key

The A key is the left little finger's home-row reference on a standard QWERTY keyboard. Use it to establish a repeatable starting position without holding your hand rigidly. The suggested finger assignment is a guide for standard QWERTY practice; the page cannot verify which finger you use.

The drill repeats a small set of characters so you can focus on placement. Copy spaces and line breaks exactly. After a comfortable attempt, try the hand or beginner lessons to combine the movement with other keys.

Practice focus

Find the left outside home key without moving the whole hand.

  1. Locate F with the index finger, then let the little finger find A three positions to the left.
  2. Copy one, two, then three As with a thumb press between groups. Release A fully between repeated letters.

Review your attempt

If S appears instead, check the starting position before increasing the group length.
