Master Your Left Hand
Master your left hand's keys: A, S, D, F on the home row, Q, W, E, R on the top row, plus Tab and Shift for reaching keys.
Practice keys: Q, W, E, R, A, S, D, F. Rather than thinking about each key individually, focus on keeping your hand loose and letting each finger return to its home-row position the instant it's done pressing. This lesson is complete once you hit 95% accuracy or 30 WPM, whichever comes first.
Single-finger drills teach precise placement, but real typing is mostly about handoffs: your index finger reaches up, then your pinky needs to be ready on the home row a fraction of a second later. This is where most self-taught typists develop bad habits, because it's tempting to glance down and re-orient your whole hand instead of trusting each finger to know its own job. The drill below deliberately jumps between the keys this hand covers so you get practice at exactly that coordination, without the added complexity of your other hand also moving.
If you're consistently missing the same key, slow down specifically around that transition rather than the whole drill. Speed that comes from skipping the hard parts isn't real speed, it just moves the mistakes further down the line.
